This goes for Pandemoniac demons too. With a 3-dot spell a Disciple of an Arcanum can summon Supernal beings aligned to his Path.
All Supernal beings when summoned pose a challenge to the summoner and if that challenge is deciphered and overcome, they owe the mage a service. It has quite a few baffling moments. That would make them evil to some people.

There is a sourcebook called Summoners that details the rules for summoning Demons and other things. Tome of the Watchtowers is generally considered the weakest mage book for fairly good reasons. The Path of Scourging is, among other things, about supreme self-knowledge and self-understanding. A Mastigos could, for instance, have a pleasant chat with his own alcohol addiction. A lot of the book seems written about a different version of Mage.

Login or Sign Up Log in with. Overall, the Mastigos are weird. Do they summon them? I don’t remember if it was in the core yome. Supernal Demons from Pandemonium and Goetic demons from inside the Mind, representations of your actual inner vices and failings and so on.
As for the Evil part of it Well, to sum it up: Byzantine Empire in Middle Ages — A. Being very aware of your own vices and failings and those of others lends itself to a more “anti-heroic” bearing.
Which is pitty, but coming 2ED corebook will fix this. I know it was in Summoners, and all it takes is 3 dots in any arcanum. As to general usability of Tome of Watchtowers – It is good to read it watchtoweds. A Mastigos has a hard time making themselves believe they are a good person when they really are not, the Demons of Pandemonium made sure of that.
